• SYNOPSIS Following her father’s death, director Julia Montejo uncovers the untold story of her grandmother Mari González, one of the first Basque women of working-class background to attend university before the Civil War. Together with her daughter Cecilia, she embarks on a journey across Spain, France and Germany to explore how the trauma of the war was passed down from mothers to children in different ways among those who lived through the Franco regime and those who managed to go into exile. Daughters of Silence / Isilduen Alabak is a documentary about memory, motherhood and the invisible traces that history leaves on subsequent generations.
