• SYNOPSIS We live with artificial lighting as if we wanted to banish darkness completely. The exponential increase in light sources, driven by LED technology, has intensified an environmental problem known as light pollution. In recent years, numerous scientific studies have analyzed its harmful effects on living beings, revealing that the alteration of natural light cycles interferes with the development of animals and plants, as well as affecting the circadian rhythm in humans, among other issues. An example of organisms harmed by this reality, in addition to environmental pollution, are fireflies. It is increasingly difficult to have the opportunity to see the bioluminescence of these insects. Our artificial lights displace their natural ones.
