- TITLE AMBER GLOVES
- LOGLINE Three lines in a document. That’s all that remains of Guantes de Ámbar, an actress of African descent who performed before the Queen of Spain in 1679. Two Black actresses refuse to accept that this is enough, and through this documentary, they invoke her to tell the story that official history failed to record.
- FORMATO Short film
- GENRE Documentary
- SYNOPSIS In the 17th century, María Francisca, known as Amber Gloves, was a prominent actress of African descent who performed works by Calderón before the Spanish court. However, only four lines in an archive remain as evidence of her existence. Four centuries later, two actresses of African descent reconstruct their memories through imagination, historical research, and fiction. Their voices evoke a life that history has left in the shadows. But Amber Gloves was no exception. Behind its name lies an unknown Spain, inhabited by artists, musicians, and professionals of African descent whose presence was erased from the collective memory.
