Navarra Film Industry (NFI) will be present under the brand Navarra Animation at the upcoming edition of MIFA, the industry section of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The festival, which will be held from June 8 to 14 in the French city of Annecy, is one of the most important in the animation world. The NFI delegation will be led by the Navarra Audiovisual Cluster (CLAVNA) and accompanied by representatives from the Navarra International Plan (PIN) of the Government of Navarra, along with various companies and professionals from the animation and digital creation sector in the Foral Community: Antaviana Navarra, Bárbara Gragirena, Dr. Platypus & Ms. Wombat, Efectoscopio Red, Mercury Steam, New Gravity, and Professor Octopus.

The audiovisual sector is one of the priority sectors within the PIN. Through this tool, the Government of Navarra enables the region’s audiovisual sector to gain visibility in such a globally relevant market, promoting a group stand where Navarrese companies will be present, and financing promotional materials and accreditations for the fair.

Navarrese Activity and Projects

CLAVNA is traveling to Annecy-MIFA to coordinate the participation of the NFI delegation with the aim of promoting the region and boosting companies and projects in the animation, digital creation, and new technologies—such as AI—developed in Navarra. To achieve this, in addition to having a schedule of meetings and encounters with key national and international agents, the cluster is preparing a presentation and networking event that will be held on June 11 at the market’s Garden Party Tent.

The event, “Navarra Breakfast: Coffee, 50% Tax Credit, Projects and Ethical AI,” will serve to present current projects and companies active in Navarra to the accredited MIFA audience, as well as updates on the Foral Community’s tax incentive. Additionally, it will feature a presentation by the Professor Octopus AI LAB, artificial intelligence demonstrations, a presentation of projects in development by companies, and the new technological set installed in Tudela, equipped with a mocap motion capture system.

Among the attending professionals will be Carlos F. de Vigo and Lorena Ares to present the Professor Octopus Artificial Intelligence laboratory, dedicated to digital creative industries and recognized with the “Business R&D Unit” distinction by the Government of Navarra. The project is part of the Dr. Platypus & Ms. Wombat group, from which they produced Cafunè, a short film that won the Goya Award for Best Animated Short Film at the last edition of the awards. At MIFA, they will showcase demonstrations of how to use AI ethically to improve production quality or as a means to work on new narrative formats. They also have various projects in production, including the short film Eva y Evariste and the feature film Dinogames.

For her part, Bárbara Gragirena will present Invencibles, a 2D animated documentary short film that recently won Best Animac Project 2025 and was selected at Animadeba and Weird Market 2024. The company Antaviana Navarra will be represented by Bernart Aragonès, who will exhibit the progress of two of his projects: Bici Lola and Luces. Finally, Ferran Piquer, from Efectoscopio Red, will share details about his current project, titled Universo, a science fiction series based on an original idea by Albert Monteys.
