The most notable structure is the Tower of Ayanz, a late-medieval fortified tower considered one of the most representative examples of civil-military architecture in Navarra. The tower displays the typical features of 14th-century defensive buildings. It has a square floor plan and is built with carefully cut stone masonry, with noticeable differences between the lower and upper parts of the walls. The base shows a slight batter, a common defensive feature that reinforced stability and made attacks more difficult. Several arrow slits appear on its façades, arranged in pairs for defensive purposes. Originally the entrance was at a certain height from the ground, a common system in this type of towers to improve tOriginally the entrance was located above ground level, a common defensive solution that improved protection, although today there is an access door at ground level. The complex forms part of the historical heritage of the valley and reflects the strategic and noble role that such towers played in medieval Navarra.
